Praise God! Craft Ideas for Elizabeth, Mary, and the Magnificat
How do we express praise? There are a lot of ways to show enthusiasm: we can jump for joy, sing and dance, giggle with glee, and more! The story of Mary’s visitation to Elizabeth reminds us that there are many methods of glorifying God, and that He delights in our praise. Even John the Baptist praised, before being born! These crafts celebrate Elizabeth, Mary, and more. A jingle bell bracelet allows students to have fun and make a joyful (and festive) noise to God. A “Jumping John” puppet helps share the story with Elizabeth and John featured in a creative craft.

And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the baby leaped in her womb. -Luke 1:41
“My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior…” -Luke 1:47
Make a joyful noise…praise the Lord!

Craft one: “Make a Joyful Noise Bracelet”
You will need:
- Pipe cleaner
- Scissors
- Jingle bells
- Markers and/or crayons
- Construction paper or cardstock
- Stickers and decorations
- Glue, stapler, or tape
- Glitter (optional)
Procedure:
- Decorate two long cut strips of paper with stickers, verses, or captions.
- String several jingle bells along a pipe cleaner.
- Attach the jingle bell pipe cleaner to the paper with tape or staples.
- Attach the papers together to form a joyful, noise-making bracelet!
Craft Two: “Jumping John in Elizabeth Puppet”
You will need:
- Markers/crayons
- Construction paper or card stock
- Decorations (stickers, etc.)
- Scissors
- Captions/verses
- Paper bag
- Hole punch
- Pipe cleaner or string
- Tape or glue
- Small tea light (battery operated/electric)
Procedure:
1. Decorate the paper bag to look like a puppet of “Elizabeth.”
2. Add facial features, clothing, and body parts as desired, using cloth and eyes or drawn elements.
3. Place a piece of paper or paper bag over the bottom half of the puppet, stapling or taping to secure.
4. Create a miniature figure of a baby “John the Baptist.” Attach to a popsicle stick.
5.) place the baby within the paper bag “pouch”, allowing the John to move and “leap” to reenact the story. If desired, make another puppet of Mary with Jesus.
