Introduction
Father’s Day is a special day to celebrate and honor our fathers and father figures. In this Sunday school lesson, we will explore the meaning of Father’s Day and how we can honor our fathers and our Heavenly Father.
Opening Prayer
Begin the lesson with a prayer thanking God for our fathers and father figures and asking for guidance and understanding as we study his word.
Bible Reading
Read Exodus 20:12 and Psalm 103:13 aloud, or have a student read them. Encourage the students to follow along in their Bibles.
Discussion
After reading the verses, ask the students the following questions to encourage discussion and understanding:
- What do these verses tell us about fathers?
- How can we honor our fathers?
- How can we honor our Heavenly Father?
Explain to the students that these verses tell us to honor our fathers and mother, and that we can do this by showing them love, respect, and appreciation. We can also honor our Heavenly Father by following his commandments and living a life that pleases him.
Object Lesson
To help illustrate the meaning of Father’s Day, you can use an object lesson. For example, you can use a picture of a father and child to represent the special bond between fathers and their children. Explain to the students that just as the father in the picture loves and cares for his child, our fathers love and care for us. We can honor our fathers by showing them love and appreciation, and by thanking them for all they do for us.
Application
Ask the students how they can apply the lessons from this lesson to their own lives. Encourage them to think about how they can show love and appreciation to their fathers and father figures, and how they can honor their Heavenly Father by living a life that pleases him.
Closing Prayer
End the lesson with a prayer thanking God for our fathers and father figures and asking for his help in showing them love and appreciation.
